It was another exciting evening at the Downtown Springfield Second Friday Art Walk at my twin sister’s shop. Her creative life lies in the tattoo field. Her shop, Memento Ink, is a productive tattoo parlor, hair and nail salon, piercing shop and art gallery. I am completely content hanging out with the artists and creatives and you never know who will come through the door next. And on Art Walk night she always has fantastic artists on display, great refreshments, and usually a local band or musician to round out the evenings festivities.

This month the theme was March of the Mad Hatters. I look forward to this event all year long! I love hats! I also adore seeing the amazing craftiness in others’ creations. Emerald Art Center, City of Springfield and Tronson Gallery sponsored this event. I hosted a hat making party to prepare. Everyone brought some random supplies and we spent most of a day in my dining room with glue guns, ribbons, buttons, bows and anything else we could think of to come up with the best representation of what we thought a hat should be. Oh, there was wine too. We all came up with something pretty great and a wonderful time was had.

This month the featured artist at Memento Ink was Kari Jensen who has found herself in the arms of the entirely amazing Pacific Northwest from warmer climes. Kari is uniquely imaginative and her art speaks of novelty and wonderment.

Bright colors and energetic movement, soft contemplation and peaceful zen. I hope that you will take the time to check out more of Kari Jensen’s work. She also has a larger show coming up at the City Hall Gallery in a few months. You can also click the link above to be taken to her website. Enjoy!
